Narasimha Dev Puja Vidhi

The worship of Lord Narasimha is considered highly auspicious and spiritually rewarding. This puja is believed to help devotees overcome fear, difficulties, and adversaries. It should be performed at home with sincerity, devotion, and a pure heart. Simple and sattvic worship, free from unnecessary display, is considered most pleasing to Lord Narasimha.

Auspicious Time for Worship

  • Early morning during Brahma Muhurta (before sunrise) or at sunrise is considered the best time for worship

  • Special worship is traditionally performed on Narasimha Jayanti (Vaishakha Shukla Chaturdashi)

  • Worship of Lord Narasimha on every Chaturdashi tithi is considered especially beneficial

  • Offering lamps and performing aarti in the evening also holds special significance

Preparation

  • Take a bath before worship and wear clean yellow or orange clothes

  • Purify the worship area with Ganga water or clean water

  • Place an idol or image of Lord Narasimha on an altar covered with a clean red or yellow cloth

  • Calm your mind and make a sacred resolve before beginning the puja

  • Arrange all worship materials neatly on a tray in advance

Puja Materials

  • Idol or image of Lord Narasimha

  • Ghee lamp or sesame oil lamp

  • Sandalwood incense or incense sticks

  • Yellow or orange flowers (marigold, lotus, or oleander)

  • Tulsi leaves (especially dear to Lord Vishnu)

  • Kumkum, turmeric, and Akshata (unbroken rice grains)

  • Panchamrit — milk, curd, ghee, honey, and sugar

  • Sandalwood paste

  • Coconut, banana, or yellow-colored fruits

  • Yellow sweets or halwa (for offering)

  • Kalash filled with Ganga water or pure water

  • Betel leaves, betel nuts, and cloves

  • A worship seat (asan) and achamani spoon/vessel

Puja Procedure

    Sit on the worship seat, fold your hands, and take a resolve for the puja by chanting 'Om Namo Narasimhaya' three times

    Light the lamp and incense and offer salutations to Lord Narasimha

  3. 3

    Perform achamana with water from the Kalash and purify the worship area

    Bathe the idol or image with Panchamrit and then perform abhisheka with pure water

    Apply sandalwood paste and offer kumkum and turmeric

  6. 6

    Offer Tulsi leaves, yellow flowers, and a garland

  7. 7

    Offer Akshata (rice grains) and betel leaves with betel nuts

  8. 8

    Offer coconut and food offerings such as halwa, fruits, and sweets

    With devotion, chant the Narasimha mantra — 'Om Ugram Veeram Mahavishnum Jvalantam Sarvatomukham. Nrisimham Bhishanam Bhadram Mrityor Mrityum Namamyaham॥' — 108 times

    Recite the Narasimha Chalisa or Narasimha Stotra

    Perform aarti of Lord Narasimha with a ghee lamp

    Perform pradakshina (circumambulation) and offer full prostration

    Conclude with a prayer for forgiveness and distribute the prasad among family members

Important Instructions

Tulsi leaves and yellow flowers hold special importance in the worship of Lord Narasimha and should be offered whenever possible. Avoid feelings of hatred or anger toward anyone during the puja. Simple sattvic worship performed at home is considered the most effective. For any specialized tantric ritual or advanced spiritual practice, guidance from a qualified guru is recommended.
