Story of Goddess Durga Mata

Goddess Durga is one of the most revered and powerful deities in Sanatan Dharma. She is worshipped as the Goddess of strength, courage, protection, establishment of righteousness, and destroyer of evil. Devotees worship her as Jagjanani, Adi Shakti, and the Mother who removes difficulties.
In ancient times, there was a cruel demon named Mahishasura. Through severe penance, he received a boon from Lord Brahma that no god or demon would be able to kill him. After receiving the boon, he became extremely arrogant. He attacked heaven, defeated the gods, and seized Indra’s throne.
The gods became deeply troubled by the tyranny of Mahishasura. All the deities approached Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Mahadev. Then, from the combined divine energies of the three gods, a radiant light emerged. From that divine light appeared a glorious and powerful Goddess. She was Durga Mata. All the gods offered their celestial weapons and powers to her. Lord Shiva gave the trident, Lord Vishnu gave the discus, Indra gave the thunderbolt, Varuna gave the conch, Agni gave divine power, and the Himalayas gave her the lion as her vehicle.
Mounted on the lion, Durga Mata entered the battlefield. Seeing her brilliance, Mahishasura’s army was terrified. Mahishasura took many forms while fighting her. At times he became a buffalo, sometimes a lion, sometimes an elephant, and sometimes a human. The battle continued for nine days. With her immense valor, Durga Mata destroyed the demon army. On the tenth day, she finally killed Mahishasura with her trident and discus. The gods praised her with joy, and peace was restored in heaven.
