Indra Dev is remembered in the Vedas as the King of the Devas, associated with heaven, rain, clouds, thunderbolt, courage, and leadership.

The Story of Indra Dev

Indra Dev is revered in Hinduism as the ruler of Heaven (Svarga), the king of the Devas, and the lord of rain, lightning, clouds, and natural forces. He occupies a prominent position among the Vedic deities and is the most frequently praised god in the Rigveda. Indra Dev symbolizes strength, courage, leadership, prosperity, and the protection of dharma. Devotees worship him as the deity who brings rain, safeguards agriculture, and destroys evil forces.
According to Vedic scriptures, Indra Dev is the son of Sage Kashyapa and Aditi. He is one of the principal Adityas and rules the heavenly realm as the king of the gods. His capital is Amaravati, where he resides with his wife Shachi Devi (Indrani).
Indra Dev's vehicle is the divine white elephant Airavata, who emerged during the Churning of the Ocean (Samudra Manthana). He carries the Vajra, a celestial thunderbolt weapon that symbolizes unmatched power and victory.
The most famous story associated with Indra Dev is the slaying of the demon Vritrasura. Vritrasura was a powerful asura who blocked rivers and water sources through his influence. As a result, a severe drought spread across the earth, causing immense suffering to all living beings.
