Story of Sita Mata
Sita Mata is one of the most revered goddesses in Sanatan Dharma and is regarded as the embodiment of purity, devotion, compassion, and righteousness. She is the divine consort of Lord Rama, the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu, and is worshipped as an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi. Known by sacred names such as Janaki, Vaidehi, Maithili, Bhumija, and Siya, Sita Mata represents ideal virtue, unwavering faith, and the strength to uphold dharma under all circumstances.
According to the Ramayana, King Janaka of Mithila discovered a divine infant while ploughing a sacred field during a yajna. Since she emerged from the Earth, she was named Sita and became known as Bhumija, the daughter of Mother Earth. King Janaka lovingly raised her as his own daughter, and her divine qualities became evident from an early age.
As she grew, King Janaka organized a grand swayamvara. The challenge was to lift and string the mighty bow of Lord Shiva. Many kings and warriors failed, but Lord Rama effortlessly lifted and broke the bow. Sita Mata joyfully garlanded Lord Rama, and their marriage became a symbol of divine love, virtue, and sacred companionship.
After Lord Rama was exiled to the forest for fourteen years, Sita Mata chose to accompany him despite the hardships ahead. Leaving behind the comforts of royal life, she embraced the forest path with courage and devotion. Her decision reflected her commitment to dharma and her unwavering dedication to her husband.
